Township Parks
Upper Providence residents enjoy history
and nature
-Anderson Farm Park
- Located at Hopwood Road and Route 113, the 60-plus acres of Anderson
Farm Park
-Black Rock Park - Located on 20 acres at Black Rock Road
between Routes 113 and 29, Black Rock Park is next to the township’s
administration, police, and public works buildings.
-Lock 60, Schuylkill Canal - Known for its great fishing
along the banks of the Canal and the Schuylkill River
-MacFarlan Park - 10-acre park, located on Greentree Road
between Black Rock and Egypt roads and adjacent to the Oaks Fire Company
-Port Providence Road Park - Located on Port Providence Road,
this quarter acre park is geared for young children
-Upper Providence Canal Park - 3.9 acre park on Longford Road
-Preservation - The township participates in many
preservation studies and protects open space and historical areas such
as; Lock No. 60 restoration, Black Rock Park expansion, Anderson Farm
Park development and Hundreds of acres are preserved as open space.

County Parks
-Upper
Schuylkill Valley Park
- Located on Route 113 in Montgomery County, this 15-acre park includes
a Picnic area, Fishing and Wildlife Center.
-Lower
Perkiomen Valley Park -This 107-acre park, located on New
Mill Road, Oaks, features; Basketball court, Multi-purpose fields,
Walking trails, Fishing, Bandstand, Playgrounds, Picnic area and Public
Restrooms. Creek-side
fishing in the Perkiomen is a quiet pastime for the avid outdoorsmen,
and in the frigid temperatures of winter, the creek becomes a skater's
wonderland.
-Valley Forge National Historical Park
- two-thirds of which are within the boundaries of Montgomery County, is
maintained by the National Park Service.
-Evansburg State Park - offers a significant area of green space
and relative solitude in an urbanized area. Its main natural feature,
the Skippack Creek, has dissected the land into ridges and valleys that
create feelings of enclosures and provides scenic views.
-Green Lane Park
- is a joining of Upper Perkiomen Valley and the Green Lane Reservoir
Parks. This combination consists of over 3,000 acres with three bodies
of water totaling 870 acres. Four activity sites within the park offer a
variety of uses. Deep Creek Lake Area has 50 overnight campsites. Rental
row boats, private boat racks and electric boats are available at the
Walt Road Launch and Deep Creek Lake. All three of these sites have
woods, grills, large picnic areas, fishing and many open fields for a
variety of active sports. The charted miles of nature trails attract
hikers and equestrians from far and wide to enjoy the natural beauty of
the four season’s changes. Wintertime sees the heartier sports of ice
skating, cross-country skiing and sledding, and ice fishing. Green Lane
Park is the location of the only Montgomery County Nature Center where
year round the Environmental Education staff provides fascinating
programs for both children and adults. Route 29, Green Lane, Upper
Frederick, Upper Hanover, Marlborough Township. Enjoy the Fishing,
boating, picnicking, horseback riding, hiking, tennis, camping, cross
country skiing, ice fishing, nature & environmental studies.
Attractions
-Black
Rock Dam:
a stone-filled timber crib structure surrounding a 3-mile
dam pool that fishermen, boaters, and water skiers can all enjoy
-Lock No. 60: a "gateway" on the Schuylkill Canal that
allows extra water to flood into a shallower area so that boats may
float safely though it, dating back to 1839
-The Lock House: adjacent to Lock No. 60, the former
residence of the lock tender, whose job it was to monitor the waterway
and open the lock when necessary
-Friends Meeting House: located on Black Rock Road, a
Quaker church dating back to 1740
-Far Away Farm: land purchased by William Penn’s sons with a
house built on the land by Henry Ewalt in 1761
-Montclair: meaning "Clear Mountain," this house dates
back to the mid-1800s and overlooks the river
-Broadview: a Victorian home with a view of the Schuylkill
River
-John James Audubon Center at Mill Grove: First home in
America of famed artist/naturalist John James Audubon; trails for
bird-watching abound in 175-acre preserve; Mill Grove museum features

Montgomery County Community
College an affordable, quality
coeducational community
college with campuses in Blue Bell and Pottstown.
Ursinus College is part of the richly varied higher educational
community of the greater Philadelphia region. Its 150-acre campus in
suburban Montgomery County is just 30 miles from Center City.
Libraries
Two libraries serve Upper Providence residents—the Royersford Public
Library and the Montgomery County Norristown Public Library. The
Montgomery County Bookmobile also visits the township.
